Purple and Denim

So I've never painted my nails before... Ok, that's not entirely true. A few weeks ago I tried on a black enamel, 'Stiletto' by Revlon Colorstay, but on me with my rosy cheeks and blond hair, the color looked absolutely revolting. No joke. Instead of looking all rocker chick sexy like I rather hoped, all I saw was man hands! Even my friends agreed, who are usually just so supportive with anything I do it's hard to take them seriously--I find I have more reason to trust them now! Lesson learned. :)

But thats not the only experience with nail polish that has alienated me from using it--I just can't seem to get it on correctly. Seriously, it takes gobs more practice and patience, for me, than learning make-up. I have struggled with it since I was little (listen to me, I sound like this is some sort of life-long inner conflict!), although I never had the ability to really put in the time with it until recently. And the issue is: How do you get it on without it looking like something Ocar the Grouch slathered on--looking like a globby mess? Especially, if you're right handed, how do you do the right hand? I could usually get the left hand, the one that doesn't see any real action in life (sorry lefty!) looking absolutely fabulous. But the right, the one that does all the important stuff (again, sorry lefty for my candidness!) will end up looking like the work of Dali. I understand why so many would either ignore it, or just spend the money at the salon.

So anyways, I know I said it would be a week between posts, but despite being so decietful, I am  also super excited because... I did it! Last night I had just a little free time, so I grabbed some of my friend's polish and just started playing around for fun. I actually figured it'd come out so horrible again that I would just have to pour on the remover and scrub it off as soon as I finished. But no such misfortune came to me on this day. Like I said, I was just playing around, so I used two different colors--both Maybelline Color Show--'Plum Paradise' and 'Styled Out' from their Denim Collection, but I was incredibly happy with the final product. It took some doing, but it went on smoothly and shines beautifully, without any obvious streaks or globs. So yay me! I think I got the hang of it, I did it, and I'm celebrating.
